International Recruitment & Work Permit FAQs

20 questions for international candidates

For international candidates exploring Europe and other Western destinations. These additional answers are general information, not legal or individual immigration advice. Rules vary and change; follow the linked official guidance.

Can I apply for European jobs while living outside the EU?

You can explore vacancies and contact employers from abroad, but an application does not establish eligibility to move or work. Start with the actual role and destination, then ask whether the employer can support the relevant hiring process. The EU Immigration Portal provides country and category guidance. National authorities, not recruiters, decide immigration applications. Prepare a focused CV and accurate explanation of your qualifications; do not claim work rights you have not confirmed.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar with your target role, experience and destination to ask about recruitment support. No job or visa outcome is guaranteed.

Does a Schengen short-stay visa let me start a job?

Do not treat it as a general work permit. The European Commission’s Schengen guidance describes short, temporary visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Permission for employment must be checked separately under the destination’s rules, including for some short assignments. An interview invitation, job offer or brief intended stay does not by itself settle the question. Ask the consulate or immigration authority about your actual purpose before travelling or beginning work.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Confirm current national requirements.

Next step: Tell ErdoBar about your job-search goals. Ask the authority about permission to work; a recruitment enquiry cannot guarantee it.

Can I work across Schengen with a permit from one country?

Do not assume so. Travel, residence and employment are separate checks. The Commission’s guidance on moving between countries explains that the applicable conditions depend on your document, intended stay and destination. Some categories have mobility arrangements, but they are conditional. Before accepting work elsewhere, ask the receiving authority whether a new application or notification is needed and when work may start. Describe your current status accurately to the prospective employer.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Verify your particular document and destination.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about your target role and country. Neither mobility permission nor employment is guaranteed.

What is the difference between a visa, residence permit and work permission?

These terms concern different aspects of entering, staying and working, but their precise use varies nationally. A route may involve a visa, a residence document with employment conditions, a separate work permit or combined permission. Do not assume that holding one document answers every question. The EU Immigration Portal helps identify destination routes, while national authorities handle residence applications. Check the conditions of the exact route and document rather than relying on an informal label.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Confirm terminology and conditions nationally.

Next step: Ask ErdoBar about candidate recruitment support; use the authority for document-specific questions. No outcome is promised.

Who can issue an EU Blue Card?

Only the relevant participating EU Member State can issue one. The European Commission’s Blue Card page warns that commercial websites cannot issue cards and may contain incorrect information or charge for services. A recruiter can discuss a hiring process, but cannot replace the competent authority or guarantee approval. Confirm the national application channel and whether you or the employer submits the application. Denmark and Ireland do not use this scheme; their skilled-work rules require separate research.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Check the national requirements before acting.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about your professional goals, not a guaranteed card. No recruitment or permit result is promised.

Is there one EU-wide salary threshold for a skilled-work permit?

Do not use one figure for every country or route. The EU Blue Card guidance links eligibility to national salary conditions; countries may also offer different national work routes. Thresholds and applicable categories can change. Check the current authority’s instructions and the details of your actual offer, including how pay is defined. A salary meeting one published figure does not, by itself, establish that the job, qualification and other conditions are satisfied.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. This answer gives no salary or eligibility assessment.

Next step: Ask ErdoBar about recruitment support for your target role. Confirm eligibility with the authority; no job or permit is guaranteed.

Do I need a university degree for every German skilled-work route?

Avoid assuming that all qualified employment requires a university degree. Germany’s official qualified-professional visa guide addresses academic studies and qualified vocational training, subject to recognition or comparability and other conditions. A specific qualified job offer matters, and regulated professions can require a licence. This is one route, not a complete account of German immigration options. Check the official instructions for your qualification and proposed work rather than assuming that any training certificate qualifies.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. No German-route eligibility is determined here.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar with your occupation and training background to ask about recruitment support. No recognition, job or visa result is guaranteed.

Why does a Dutch employer’s IND recognition matter?

For the Netherlands highly skilled migrant route, the IND states that only an employer it recognizes can apply for your permit. Ask which legal entity will employ you and confirm the proposed route rather than relying on a broad statement that the company hires internationally. Recognition alone does not establish that every candidate or job satisfies the requirements. Other Dutch work categories can follow different conditions, so do not generalize this rule to every employment situation.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Use the IND’s current guidance for your circumstances.

Next step: Tell ErdoBar about your target Netherlands role and ask about recruitment support. No sponsoring vacancy or permit approval is guaranteed.

Must I have a job offer before applying for a work permit?

It depends on the destination and route. The UK Skilled Worker route requires a confirmed job offer. Canada’s official work-permit hub distinguishes employer-specific permits, which require an offer, from open permits, which do not—but open-permit eligibility is limited to applicable categories. Do not infer that everyone can obtain an offer-free permit. Name the actual route and check its official conditions before paying for an application or assuming that job searching authorizes employment.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. No personal route is recommended here.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about your job-search goals. Recruitment enquiries do not guarantee an offer or work permission.

Will my overseas professional qualification be recognized automatically?

Do not assume automatic recognition. The EU’s regulated-professions guidance explains that regulation differs between countries and that recognition of non-EU qualifications is subject to national rules. Identify the profession, destination and competent body. Ask whether the proposed role requires professional recognition, a licence or another assessment. An employer accepting your CV is not the same as a professional authority authorizing practice, and immigration permission is not a substitute for a required licence.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. The competent body decides recognition and licensing.

Next step: Ask ErdoBar about recruitment support for your occupation. No recognition, placement or permit outcome is promised.

Can I use the same translated documents for every country?

Do not assume so. Start with the destination’s official checklist and ask which language, translator, certification and document format it accepts. Requirements can differ by route and purpose; recognition and immigration processes may request different evidence. The EU Immigration Portal leads to country guidance, while professional-recognition guidance points to national bodies. Confirm the instructions before buying translation services. Keep original records intact and ask how to explain discrepancies instead of altering a certificate.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. This is preparation guidance, not an official checklist.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar to ask how to share your CV for recruitment. No document acceptance or job outcome is guaranteed.

Is there one language test for all European work permits?

Do not assume a single test or score applies everywhere. Check immigration requirements for the named route and ask the employer which language skills the job requires. A professional regulator may have separate requirements where applicable. The EU Immigration Portal organizes routes nationally, while the UK Skilled Worker guide specifically addresses English evidence. An English-language advertisement does not establish that no other language evidence is needed, nor that its requirements can be reused for another country.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Check the relevant authority and professional body.

Next step: Tell ErdoBar about your target role and language skills. No vacancy, test acceptance or permit outcome is guaranteed.

Can a recruiter guarantee my job or visa approval?

Treat a guarantee as a reason to verify independently, not as proof. National authorities make final immigration decisions; recruitment selection is separate. The Commission’s migration-safety guidance warns about promises of entry and unauthorized routes. Confirm the real employer, vacancy, written terms and official permit process through independently obtained contacts. Do not provide false documents or misstate your travel purpose because an intermediary says it will improve your chances.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. These checks do not certify an offer’s legitimacy.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about candidate recruitment support. ErdoBar does not promise a job offer or immigration approval.

Who should pay recruitment, visa and relocation costs?

There is no safe universal answer for every destination, employer and service. Separate official application charges, any recruitment-service charges, document preparation and personal relocation costs. Ask who pays each item, what it covers and whether repayment terms apply. Official route pages such as the UK Skilled Worker guide explain relevant application costs, but do not validate an intermediary’s fee. Check country-specific rules or seek qualified advice if a charge or deduction is unclear. Neither a paid service nor a waived fee guarantees approval.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal, financial or individual immigration advice. No fee arrangement is approved here.

Next step: Ask ErdoBar about its recruitment enquiry process before assuming a service or charge. No placement or permit is guaranteed.

Does seasonal work guarantee permanent employment or residence?

No automatic outcome should be assumed. The EU seasonal-worker overview describes a category tied to seasonal work and national conditions. A possible later job or change of status is a separate question for the destination authority. Check the employer, contract dates, pay, accommodation terms and permission needed before starting. Do not rely on a verbal promise that a short contract will inevitably become a permanent European job or residence permit.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Verify the specific seasonal route and any future options officially.

Next step: Tell ErdoBar what kind of work you are seeking and ask about recruitment support. No seasonal vacancy or long-term outcome is promised.

Can I change employers using my current work permission?

Check the conditions of your actual permission first. A valid expiry date does not necessarily mean unrestricted access to every employer. The EU Blue Card guidance discusses conditional employer changes, and the UK Skilled Worker guide directs workers to update their visa when changing job or employer. Other routes can differ. Ask the authority what must be done and when the new work may begin; do not infer permission merely from submitting paperwork or signing a contract.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. No permission to change jobs is established here.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about your next-role goals. No new employment or immigration outcome is guaranteed.

Is an intra-company transfer the same as applying to a multinational?

Not necessarily. The EU intra-corporate transferee guidance describes qualifying temporary transfers from an employer outside the EU to a related unit, with conditions concerning the employee, role and company relationship. A newly advertised job at an unrelated group entity should not automatically be labelled a transfer. Ask HR to identify the route, employing and host entities, assignment terms and supporting evidence, then check the destination’s current instructions.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Transfer eligibility is not assessed in this answer.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar about new-role recruitment support, or your employer’s HR team for an internal assignment. No transfer or permit is promised.

Can my partner work if I move to Europe for a job?

Possibly, but do not assume it from your own employment permission. The EU family-reunification overview explains conditional family routes and national variations. Categories such as the EU Blue Card have particular arrangements. Ask which relatives can apply, when they can apply and what employment conditions apply to their documents. Your partner’s nationality, circumstances and route can matter; an employer’s relocation offer does not establish dependent rights.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Check each family member’s position officially.

Next step: Ask ErdoBar about your recruitment goals; use the authority for family permissions. No family permit, work right or job is guaranteed.

Can I stay and work automatically after graduating in an EU country?

Do not assume an automatic transition. The EU student guidance discusses post-study possibilities under conditions and an application process. Check your country’s current graduate or job-search route, application timing and conditions, then separately confirm what is needed for the offered job. Student work conditions are not a universal authorization for any full-time role after graduation. An offer, pending application or ceremony date should not be treated as proof that your existing status has extended.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Obtain official guidance about your current status and proposed change.

Next step: Contact ErdoBar with your field, completion date and target role. No graduate job or permission is promised.

Can I use a Schengen visa or EU permit for a job in the UK or Canada?

Do not treat these documents as UK or Canadian work authorization. The UK government sets out its Skilled Worker requirements, while Canada’s IRCC distinguishes employer-specific and open work permits and their applicable processes. Research the destination’s actual route, not a general promise of a “Western-country visa.” An existing job or residence history elsewhere may form part of your background, but it does not by itself establish eligibility for a new country’s work permission.

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. Check the current national instructions for your circumstances.

Next step: Tell ErdoBar your target role and destination to ask about recruitment support. No job, visa or residence outcome is guaranteed.
