  • Overseas recruitment offers: how to check warning signs

Reviewed: 19 October 2026. General information only, not legal or individual immigration advice. These checks cannot certify that a person, offer or service is legitimate.

A confident promise is not official approval

International candidates can face pressure to decide quickly when a message promises work, accommodation and a visa together. The European Commission warns about promises of entry and the risks of unauthorized routes, false documents and exploitation.

Treat a claim of guaranteed immigration approval as a reason to verify independently. For the EU Blue Card, the Commission explicitly states that only Member States can issue cards; commercial websites cannot do so.

Verify the offer outside the message thread

As practical due diligence, locate the employer through independently obtained contact details and ask whether the vacancy and contact are genuine. Confirm the employing entity, workplace, duties and written terms. A logo, copied website or familiar messaging profile is not enough by itself.

Ask for the official name of the immigration route and compare the explanation with government guidance. Be cautious if someone asks you to misstate your travel purpose, use false documents or begin work before the necessary permission is established.

Understand payments and protect your records

Request an itemized explanation of any proposed fee or deduction and the written service terms. Do not assume that every paid service is fraudulent, or that every requested payment is lawful. Questions about recruitment fees and employment deductions need country-specific checking.

Share sensitive identity records only with a verified recipient for a clear purpose. Keep copies of correspondence, receipts and documents. If you are threatened or in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or official victim-support channels; a recruitment contact form is not an emergency service.
